This man needs to be given his day in court (not just the one of public opinion). He should be given the chance to defend himself, if and when legally accused. It is not fair to throw him out without any charges or the ability to defend himself and his job/career and security clearance/s. It is clear that just the messaging here thus far has damaged his career and reputation; and likely irrevocably so already. This is utterly ridiculous. I do not know Dan personally but he seems like the exact opposite of a traitor and/or leaker of classified and non-releasable information & documentation. We have a constitution and Bill of Rights for a reason. Give this man, and the other “informally” accused individuals, their collective day in court, or at least an informal or formal refer board to review what actually happened and who is behind it. If this is indeed a true and fair meritocracy, they must have their right to face their accusers and the charges (if any) brought against them in a fair, unbiased, and just trial/review. Something is clearly going on here. It seems like these three were labeled the “black sheep” and persona non grata of the war hawks and oligarchical members of the hidden uniparty, so they got them out of the way.

Retired Career military officer and senior beltway Intel civil service here Tucker, but my take is this man was released for OPSEC talking out of school and to sensitive policy and operational discussions leaking that undermined his chain of command and interfered with policy decision and strategy execution.
His engagement with the media speaks to ego and him putting himself, his ego, and his lower ranking self and thoughts ahead of the actual decision-maker he was paid to be loyal to, discreet, non-disclosure agreement knowledge and sensitive info even if/as not classified by DNI regulation. He could be source of Pentagon inner circle policy and operational in-house thing that undercut and kneecapped his bosses. Reason for firing. I have little respect for his grandstanding.
Had he been on active duty, he would have been relieved position for loss of confidence by chain of chain, and charged/punished under UCMJ, and he would have been transferred to Alaskan Island assignment and his career over;, firing is the civilian equivalent.

Trump has made it clear he doesn’t want war, but he uses bluffing and good cop bad cop diplomatic tactics to leverage and manipulate his diplomacy. Trump is clearly a POTUS who uses sophisticated and sometimes unclear negotiation methods (including bluffing) that depends on loyal employees not getting nervous and “blinking a tell” as Trump and his team negotiatiate sophisticated and delicate full spectrum (offensive, defensive, good cop/bad cop, etc tactics based on their reads of their adversaries and adversaries psychologies.
Frankly, the first POTUS who has engaged the FULL quiver of diplomacy tactics, not just carrot and appeasement arrows. This lower level civil service blinked and now makes the diplomatic dance more difficult for the true players, leaders, and decision makers. This guys a nobody lower level staffer in that crew. I cant side with Caldwell or Hegseth on this as there is so little information provided. Caldwell would certainly not have any evidence on his phone & many in intelligence positions are trained to fool a polygraph. I suspect, if any of the three "leaked" anything, it was Carroll, in an effort to completely dismantle Hegseth's initial "team" of advisors. But the likely reality is NONE of them leaked anything, it was just a narrative built up to dismantle and destabilize Hegseth.
Ultimately, they will get rid of Hegseth and Steve Feinberg will become secretary of defense and we will go to war somewhere so that he can become more wealthy. It's that simple.
