Ukraine is winning the war and it is a question of time Russia will fall in the war and in the Economy.
Interesting to note, Crimea became independent six months before Ukraine did. Ukraine later proceeded to illegally and unilaterally abolish the Crimean constitution and sieze the territory.
Ever since Minsk, and right up to a certain period into the current conflict (how many years?), Zelenskyy and his Western sponsors were given the opportunity to avoid, then to cease hostilities, and what is now and will be Novorossiya would have remained part of Ukraine's territory. Ukraine didn't want to stop shelling Donbass, and to give up its NATO aspirations. Remain neutral, and stop shelling and terrorizing civilians. Too much, apparently.
Incidentally, the assurance from the US that NATO would not expand 'one inch to the east' is documented (despite claims to the contrary from the US); for anyone interested, download the memorandum of the conversation between US Secretary of State James Baker and Mikhail Gorbachev, February 9, 1990. To be historically correct, I believe (after checking with chat gbt) that Col. Daniel failed to mention that after the Coup, the Kiev government in the west of Ukraine was also continuously shelling the Luhansk and Donetsk Peoples Republics (located in the historical Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine) killing thousands of innocent civilian people. So that in addition to resistance to NATO expansion, the Russian special military operation had actually been provoked, in the sense that it was also seeking to protect the Russian speaking peoples of this region (including Crimea). This was it's only concern hence originally it was not a full scale invasive force intending to go beyond this objective of protection.
